The Story of Six Orphans

While we were at Tiyang Tali Munti Gunung we were asked to look at a man's wife as he was asking for help for her. He had kept her in the Hospital until the money ran out and the hospital told him there was nothing more that could be done to help her as she was dying of cancer of the stomach.

As soon as we saw her we knew we were not going to be able to save her, we could only provide soup and food suppliments.

We got the X rays and talked to people that had been looking after her in hospital and found they had done every thing possible they could to improve her situation and it was far too late to try for an operation as she would have no chance of survival, so it was a case of making her as comfortable as possible within the family.

As there were six children and the woman's husband was having to spend a lot of time looking after his wife we provided rice and noodles to the family, a few months later we got a phone call saying the woman had died, a friend of ours went to help out, the following Saturday we got another phone call from our friend saying the woman's husband had died of heart attack as a result of the stress of the situation. He was young and fit and this was totally unexpected.

We helped out with the burial ceremony by buying fruit, rice etc, the oldest boy was just nineteen he had a wife and child and was just about able to provide for them so now with the rest of his siblings to look after he was really struggling. The children's Aunty trys to help where she can and the oldest boy has to work away from home as there is no work for him in the village

Over the next few months we were asked to help out with the family. Dewi came to stay with us for a couple of weeks as she was not coping very well with losing her parents, also getting medical problems fixed Little Kadek had a Tumour in her lower jaw. We brought her and her sister to the house, then got the Tumour removed by taking her to Rumuh Sakit Giggi Dan Mulut in Denpasar.

The boy Ketut Punya fractured his Ankle while playing football we got that fixed by taking him to Sanglah.

We still help this family by providing rice and noodles .

This family were sponsored by Southern Cross Bali Association Inc. and some good people of the Bali Travel Forum.
